Privacy
This is how we look after your personal information. We have kept it short and in plain English. If anything is unclear, ask us.
Last updated 20 September 2026
Giggy is run from New Zealand and we follow the Privacy Act 2020. In short: we collect what we need to connect people with jobs, we do not sell your information, and you can see, fix or delete what we hold about you.
What we collect
When you make an account
- Your name, email address and password (we only ever store a scrambled version of the password).
- Anything you add to your profile: phone number, region, LinkedIn address, and your CV if you upload one.
- Business details if you post jobs: business name, industry, town, website, contact details and a short description. These show publicly on your listings.
When you apply for a job
- The note you write, plus your profile details and CV, which are shared with the person who posted that job.
- For video applications, the short video answers you record. More on those below.
When you pay for a video application
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We keep a record of the amount, the date, the job it was for, and the last few digits and type of card so we can show you receipts and sort refunds.
Automatically
- Basic technical information like your browser type, rough location from your IP address, the pages you visit and when you last signed in. We use this to keep the site running, spot abuse and see which parts of Giggy people actually use.
- Cookies that keep you signed in. We do not run advertising trackers.
Video recordings
Video applications are personal, so they get extra care.
- Recording happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded until you choose to send the application.
- Recordings are stored privately in New Zealand friendly cloud storage (Supabase, hosted in the Asia Pacific region). They are only visible to you, the employer who posted that job, and Giggy staff when we need to investigate a complaint.
- Employers may only use your recordings to decide on that job. They may not download, share or republish them, and our Terms say so.
- We delete recordings 12 months after the job closes, or sooner if you close your account.
How we use your information
- To run Giggy: show your applications to employers, show your job listings to people looking for work, and let you manage it all.
- To email you about things you asked for: job alerts, updates on applications, reminders about saved jobs, receipts. You can turn each of these off in Profile settings. We will still send the essentials like password resets and important account notices.
- To keep Giggy safe: spotting spam, fake listings and people misusing the platform. Some listings and accounts are looked at by our team before or after they go live.
- To improve Giggy, using overall patterns rather than individual profiles.
We do not sell your information and we do not share it with advertisers.
Who we share it with
- Employers see your profile, CV, note and video answers when you apply for their job. They do not see it before that.
- People looking for work see the business details and contact you put on a job listing.
- Service providers who help us run Giggy: Supabase (database, sign in and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (payments) and Resend (email). Each one only gets what it needs to do its job and is bound by its own privacy commitments. Some of these providers store data outside New Zealand, in Australia, Singapore or the United States, under protections comparable to the Privacy Act.
- The law, if we are legally required to, or if it is necessary to protect someone from harm.
How long we keep it
- Your account and profile: for as long as you have an account.
- Applications and notes: for as long as the job and your account exist. Employers can see closed job applications for up to 12 months.
- Video recordings: 12 months after the job closes.
- Payment records: 7 years, because tax law in New Zealand asks for it.
- When you close your account, your profile, saved jobs, applications, recordings and any jobs you posted are removed within 5 to 7 business days. Backups are cleared within 30 days.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Most of it you can view and change yourself in Profile settings. You can also:
- Download your CV or replace it at any time.
- Turn off any of our emails.
- Close your account, which deletes your data as described above.
- Email privacy@giggy.nz for anything else. We will get back to you within 20 working days, usually much faster.
If you are not happy with how we have handled something, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Files and recordings are stored in private buckets that need a signed in session to reach. Our team only looks at your information when there is a real reason to, like a support request or a complaint. If we ever have a breach that could cause you harm, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
Children
You need to be at least 16 to make an account. If you think someone younger has signed up, tell us and we will remove the account.
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we will let you know by email or with a notice on the site before it takes effect.
